A few words of explanation are required first. The "Dump Kohl" bumper stickers were not negative campaigning as Kohl said. At that point there was no candidate or campaign. The purpose of the stickers was actually to find someone to run against Mark Kohl. The candidate came later. I personally am going to resurrect the stickers but mine will say "DumpKohl.com". I have no relationship with Dennis Ward, candidate for state attorney. I just want to dump Mark Koh. In my view, Dennis Ward would be a vast improvement.

Mark Kohl even prosecutes POLICE OFFICERS simply because they pissed him off. A sheriff's deputy who would not let another deputy drive drunk gets charged with disorderly conduct ONLY because he stands up for his legal rights. Another bogus case and rightly thrown out of court by the judge.
I don't have the details right now, but you may remember from the Citizen a story about the Monroe County sheriff deputies who had the super bowl party at a bar.
One of the deputies wanted to drive drunk and another tried to take his keys away from him. The drunk one picked fights with the others and was arrested and charged with several misdemeanor offenses.
The good guy deputy who wanted to take the keys was also charged with disorderly conduct, but only because he stood up for his legal rights which pissed off Mark Kohl, the state attorney.
Thursday May 22, 2008 he went to trial. The state went to the expense of flying in an employee of the bar from many states away and put him up in a hotel for three days.
At the conclusion of the state's case, the defense attorney asked for a directed verdict of acquital. The judge found the deputy not guilty. In other words, the case was tossed.
The state has a certain burden of proof and then the defense goes on. If the state has clearly not met the burden of proof, the judge can enter a verdict for the defense without the defense even presenting any evidence or anything.
This means the state had a VERY weak and lame case. It should never have gone to trial. The state attorney probably wasted about 30k of the taxpayer's money.
